Now that I lost the fear of being alone in an unkown country, I became adventurous. I got up at 4am to go visit the closest floating marketing, which is a market on a river. People buy and sell stuff from their own boats. It’s a shame that there’s none in Bangkok itself, so I had to drive 1:30 hour to experience this on my own.
I scheduled with a taxi driver the day before, but he forgot… Maybe with his limited English he didn’t understand what I meant… Anyways, as I was already up, I got another driver from the hotel to take me there, wait for me when I was in...

Below, a picture of the charming little stadium in Phuket, south of the country. Phuket is the paradise city which was heavily hit by a tsunami exactly one month later. I don’t know what happened to the stadium, that’s why I decided keeping this memory.

Today was my first afternoon off here in Bangkok, and I decided to visit one of the main attractions in the country: the Grand Palace, which is a complex of buildings that served as the official residence of the kings of Thailand from the 18th century onwards.
The current royal family doesn’t live there though. That’s probably why tourists are having unprecedented access to some areas.
I have to assume I was a little scared of going there on my own. I don’t know the city well enough, and it’s the first time I’m alone in a foreign country. All the new friends...

It was almost one week of a lot of work and preparation for this moment: the start of the competition. During this week, I learned a lot about FIFA and about organizing events from the Media stand point. And I’m loving it!
The competition kicked off with a beautiful opening ceremony, which, of course, I didn’t see. I was right there in the stadium, but was working in the media areas to ensure everything would go smoothly for the journalists. But I got these pictures with some friends that were at the Media Tribune:
